Alan was a highly respected member of the Corps, known for his technical expertise, leadership, and dedication, particularly within the RAEME Aviation community. Much of his distinguished career was spent at Oakey, where he left a lasting impression on those who served alongside him.

It is with sadness that we advise the passing of Major (Retd) Robert Francis Ludlow on 2 April 2025 at John Flynn Hospital, Tugun, Gold Coast, aged 82 years.

Bob was a 13th Intake Army Apprentice (Electrical Mechanic) and graduated from Officer Cadet School, Portsea, in December 1963. He served with 106 Field Workshop, South Vietnam, from 5 November 1969 to 16 July 1970 and later attended Staff College in 1977.

In 1978, Bob resigned from the Army and transitioned to a distinguished civilian career, initially joining Mayne Nickless before rising to the position of Deputy CEO of Australia Post, a role he held for 10 years until his retirement in 2000.

Bob will be deeply missed by his Apprentice and OCS classmates, as well as his many friends and colleagues.

It is with deep sadness that we advise of the passing of Ulrich Karl Josef “Rick” Rack, a respected member of the RAEME community and RAEME Association Queensland (RAQ) Member No. 127. He was aged 67.

Rick was a 30th Intake Army Apprentice Fitter and Turner, graduating in 1976. His dedication to his trade and service to the Corps of RAEME exemplified the values of skill, professionalism, and camaraderie.

A funeral service to honour Rick’s life will be held at Albany Creek Memorial Park, 400 Albany Creek Road, Bridgeman Downs, QLD, on Thursday, 13 March 2025, at 9:00 AM. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed.

Following the service, a celebration of Rick’s life will be held at the Fig Tree Deck, Eatons Hill Tavern, 646 South Pine Road, Eatons Hill.

Born in Sydney, NSW, on 12 January 1941, Ted proudly wore the uniform of the Australian Army, reaching the rank of Corporal in Vietnam.

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Ken Thistlethwaite aged 84.

Ken served in Vietnam initially with 101 Field Workshop from May 1966 to October 1966, and later with 6RAR from October 1966 to May 1967.

Beyond his military service, Ken was a stalwart of his local community. He was a proud and active member of the Penrith RSL Sub-Branch for an impressive 55 years, demonstrating his enduring dedication to supporting veterans and fostering camaraderie.

William John Nelson, fondly known as Wally, was born on 8 October 1945 in Macksville, New South Wales.

Wally's distinguished service included two deployments to Vietnam. He served with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), from 5 June 1965 to 3 June 1966, and later with the 161 (Independent) Reconnaissance Flight from 27 August 1970 to 5 August 1971.

He is remembered fondly for days spent at Vung Tau's back beach, enjoying a swim and a barbecue with friends like Lance Rupe.

Tragically, Wally's life was cut short on 11 October 1972, just days after his 27th birthday. His passing left a void in the lives of those who knew and served alongside him. He is remembered as a wonderful mate, a skilled tradesman, and a valued member of the Corps.

Wayne Neville Maudsley was born on 26 June 1947 in Wondai, Queensland, and joined the Australian Army as an apprentice in January 1964 as part of the 19th Intake.

In 1969, Wayne deployed to Vietnam with 161 (Independent) Reconnaissance Flight. He served with distinction from 24 March 1969 to 18 March 1970.

Tragically, just 16 months after returning home from Vietnam, Wayne passed away on 8 July 1971 at the young age of 24 due to cancer. His life, though short, was marked by a commitment to service, loyalty to his comrades, and pride in his role within RAEME.

Wayne is remembered by his fellow apprentices, colleagues, and the RAEME community as a skilled tradesman, a trusted mate, and a valued member of the Corps.

He is laid to rest at the Mount Gravatt Cemetery and Crematorium

Ronald Littlefair Obituary

It is with deep regret that we inform the passing of Graeme Donald Field, affectionately known as "Tank," on Christmas night, 25 December 2024, at approximately 2100 hours.

Graeme was born on 22 July 1938 in Albert Park, Victoria, and began his career as a member of the 9th Intake Army Apprentice School, training as a Fitter and Turner before later specialising as an Instrument Technician.

During his service Graeme deployed to South Vietnam with 101 Field Workshop from 28 May 1966 to 8 May 1967.

In recent years, Graeme resided in a nursing home in Albury due to his declining health, which prevented him from receiving care at home. Despite these challenges, his spirit and the memories of his comradeship endured.

Family and friends of Graeme are warmly invited to the Memorial Service in celebration of his life which will be held at the Evergreen Chapel, 359 Wantigong St, North Albury on Wednesday 15th January 2025 commencing at 2pm.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Judith Kranen OAM on Sunday 1 December 2024 aged 72.

Judith was an active member of the Pine Rivers RSL and in 2014 she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her outstanding service to veterans and their families. A testament to her enduring commitment and care for those who served.

In 2022, she was also honured with a Local Legend of the Year award for her commitment to Veterans and local history. Heavily involved in honouring the Anzacs through the Anzac Memorial Avenue Committee.

Judith is survived by her husband John and family,. 'All in the Corps thank you on her behalf for the fun the friendship and companionship. Her time at Bulimba was one of her happy times'

She was a RAEME Association Queensland Life Subscriber, Member No. 487.

A celebration of Judith's life will held on 11 December 2024 at 10am at Victory Centre Carsedline Road, Bridgeman Downs.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of another member of the RAEME community, Alan "Lou" Gostelow who left us on Friday 22 November 2024. 

Alan tragically sustained a neck injury, was transferred to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, however sadly passed away.

Alan enlisted in the Army as a 14th Intake Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic graduating in 1961 and later attended OCS Portsea as a graduate of the Class of June 1967. He served on operations in the Malay Peninsula as a Craftsman in 1965 with HQ 28 Commonwealth Infantry Brigade. and later as a Lieutenant in South Vietnam in 1970 with 2 Advanced Ordnance Depot.

His service spanned numerous postings, including roles as a Platoon Commander, OC Support Company, and various senior staff officer positions. Alan discharged in 1984 after more than 26 years service.

Alan was a life Subscriber of the RAQ, Member No.841.

As per Alan's wishes, there will be no funeral. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be interred at a later date in the waters off Hervey Bay.

Alan’s memory lives on through his wife Marj, their two daughters, and all who had the honour of knowing him.

A proud member of the RAEME “Mafia,” and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Jason who served from 1993 until 2000, mostly in Darwin and was a member of 161 Reconnaissance SQN maintaining Kiowa’s.

Jason was a Life subscriber of the RAEME Association Queensland, Member No.641.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Shane Scott on 28 October 2024, at the age of 53.

Shane was a 42nd Intake Army Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic graduating in 1988.

Known to many as "Scotty," he served with distinction and professionalism across multiple postings, including a memorable time with SASR in the mid-1990s.

Scotty’s Army career included service on Operation Solace with 1RAR TSP in Somalia, where his skills as a Vehicle Mechanic and dedication as a soldier were invaluable. One of his exploits was to paint an 8-foot tall Corps Badge on the Workshop Wall for all to see.

A memorial service to celebrate Shane's life will be held at Tavare Park, Harrietville, on Friday the 15th of November commencing at 3.30pm. The family would love attendees to come dressed as flamboyantly as Shane. Purple, pink, red, Hawaiian shirts, retro ski jackets, mismatched socks etc.

There will also be a service in Yornup WA (Bridgetown) TBC but will probably be on Sunday 24th November 11am-3pm.

John was an 8th Intake Army Apprentice Fitter and Turner, graduating in 1955.

John served on operations in South Vietnam as part of 32 Small Ship Squadron aboard the AV 1355 Vernon Sturdee from April 1966 to June 1966. He also served overseas in Malaysia and Singapore from 1968 to 1971.

It is with great sadness we advise Raymond Norman passed away on Tuesday 29 October 2024, at 80 years of age.

Born on 3 May 1944 in Oakleigh, Victoria, Ray trained as a vehicle mechanic before enlisting in the Australian Army. His dedication and leadership saw him serve on operations in South Vietnam from February 1970 to February 1971. Ray’s military journey culminated in his appointment as the Corps RSM in 1982. For his service as RSM - Logistic Command, he was awarded an OAM in 1987. Later, Ray received his commission retired as a Major, dedicating over 30 years to the Army.

Ray’s commitment extended beyond his military career, serving as Chair of the RAEME Association Queensland and the RAEME National Association. As the driving force behind Operation Spanner Pack, he oversaw the distribution of care packs to RAEME soldiers deployed globally. His contributions earned him Honorary Life Membership of the RAQ in 2015, followed by a Chairman’s Award in 2018. Ray held RAQ Honorary Life Member No. 2.

Raymond is survived by his wife Karen and family.

The family have advised there will be a private service for the family and then holding a Celebration of Ray's life at a date and venue to be confirmed.

Born on 15 November 1951, Denis passed away on 22 September 2024.

Born on 28 March 1948 in Rockhampton, Queensland, he enlisted in the Australian Army as 19th intake Vehicle Mechanic graduating in 1966. 

Rod proudly served on operations in SVN as a Corporal with the 1st Australian Task Force Headquarters Light Aid Detachment from September 1969 to September 1970.

It is with deep sadness that we inform the RAEME community of the passing of Major David Edward Moon (RAEME, Retd), on 12 September 2024 aged 85.

Born on 25th May 1939 in Adelaide, he enlisted in the Army in 1955 as a 10th Intake Army Apprentice (Fitter and Turner). He served over 27 years, with many postings in Australia, including service overseas in the UK and PNG.

After retiring in 1982, he remained active in the 4WD community as President of the Queensland and National Associations, and as a 4x4 trainer. He was also a passionate shooter, involved with gun clubs in Toowoomba, Bundaberg, and Fraser Coasts, holding various positions including Club Captain.

He passed away peacefully in Hervey Bay.

David's funeral has been arranged for 1100h, 30 Sep 24, at Kirk’s Funeral Chapel, Hervey Bay.

Reg was born in Hobart, Tasmania, on 12 April 1946. His service to the Australian Army began as a 18th Intake Apprentice Backsmith. He served two operational tours in Vietnam in 1967 and 1970 with 101 FD WKSP, 102 FD WKP (x2) and 106 FD WKSP.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ross Melville Bignell, who left us on the 15th of August 2024 in Western Australia aged 84.

Ross commenced his military career in 1956 as an 11th Intake Army Apprentice, where he trained as a Vehicle Mechanic (VM), graduating in 1958. His dedication and skill laid the foundation for a long and committed service in the Australian Army. He graduated OCS Portsea as a member of the Class of December 1964.

One of the notable chapters in Ross’s career was his deployment to South Vietnam, AFV Detachment, 1st Division Supply Transport Workshop where he served with honour from Aug 1969 to Aug 1970.

I'm sorry to inform you this way but our Corps recently lost a prominent member, Major General Arthur Douglas Powell, ret'd.

General Powell passed on Mon 12 Aug, aged 94 years old. He is now reunited with his beloved late wife, Beverley.

Aside from the many distinguished positions General Powell held throughout his career, from Jan 78 to Aug 80 he was our Head of Corps whilst posted as the Director General of EME (DGEME). In this role, he was instrumental in leading changes that strengthened the foundations upon which our Corps stands today. He may also have been the first RAEME Officer to attain the rank of Major General.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of a true legend of our Corps BRIG Bert Barker, on 17 June 2024 in Melbourne, aged 102.

BRIG Bert belongs to a rare cohort of servicemen because he was an original member of our proud Corps at our foundation in 1942. He served in WWII on operations in PNG and through his many postings, his various commands, training and staff appointments over 33 years’ service, it is clear he made a huge contribution to the Corps, the Army and the ADF. He served as Colonel Commandant 1 Military District from 1980 to 1984 before retiring. 

Bert was RAQ Member No. 591. He received a Chairman's Award in 2019 and in 2022 was awarded 'Honorary Life Membership' of the RAEME Association Queensland for his contribution to our Corps over a lifetime.

A celebration of Bert's life will be held on Monday 1 July 2024.

Jack joined the Army in January 1966 as 21 Intake Apprentice and served in the 1970's and 80's. He was an Elect Fitter and amongst many postings served at 173 Gen Spt Sqn Wksp and also 1 Avn Regt Wksp at Oakey. He served on operations overeas in PNG and Indonesia.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Trevor Parrott on 19 March 2024, aged 81 years.

Trevor enlisted as an Army Apprentice (Radio Mechanic) in the 14th intake, 9 Jan 1959.

On graduation, assigned to RAEME and posted to Central Command Workshop, Keswick,1 Medium Workshop, Broadmeadows Vic and further trade courses at RAEME Training Centre, Bandiana, with promotion to Cpl in early 1965.

In April 1965 was posted to 1RAR for deployment to Vietnam on operations from June 1965 to June 1966.

On RTA posted to Technical Services Unit, Albert Park - det 3 Base Workshop, Broadmeadows and was discharged in Jan 1968.

Following discharge joined the Army Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant. ARes service was with local RAEME and supported units and retired on 27 June 1992 with the rank of Captain.

Is it with great sadness we advise of the passing recently of Pat Keily OAM.

Pat served from the early 70s into the 90s and was awarded an OAM in 1989 for service to the Australian Army in project management.

He was an RAQ member No.312.

Pat was instrumental in supporting the RSL and it was through his efforts saved Blackbutt RSL Sub-Branch from being closed down, achieving Volunteer of the Year Award in 2019 for the council region.

It is with great sadness we advise LTCOL John 'Jack' Wilson passed away on Tuesday 29 January 2024 in a Melbourne hospital aged 84.

Jack was a 10th Intake Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice graduating in 1957. He was also in the OCS graduating class of June 1962.

He served on operations in SVN with 101 FD WKSP from May 1966 to June 1967.

On discharge, then Colonel Wilson was appointed the Honorary Colonel Commandant RAEME Southern and Central Regions, and held senior postions within Mercedes Benz as Unimog entered service.

A Celebration of the Life of Jack Wilson will be held in the Blair Chapel, Springvale Botanical Cemetery, 600 Princes Highway, Springvale on Friday 16 February at 11am.

Privately cremated.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of William (Bill) Wallace Mervyn Bruce, a WWII veteran, founder of Nebo RSL Sub Branch (now Auxiliary), and RSL Life Member.

Bill sadly passed away over the weekend on Remembrance Day (11 November), aged 106.

Born in Nebo on 2 January 1917, Bill joined the Australian Army Reserves in 1942. He later transferred to the regular Army, serving as a Craftsman with the Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in New Guinea and New Britain.

For those wishing to pay their respects at Bill's funeral on Tuesday 28 November at 11am, please contact the RSL Central Queensland District, which is arranging bus transport from Mackay to Nebo.

It is with great sadness we advise of the Peter Tremain on 27 September 2023, aged 93.

Originally a Toolmaker, he joined the CMF in 1948 and was appointed LT (ACMF) on 20 Dec 52, he then served with a variety of units until 11 Jun 57 when he was appointed LT (ARA) and allotted to RA Inf. However, he, transferred to RAEME on 21 Jun 59 and was posted io Ingleburn Area WKSP 28 Jun 60 saw the then LT Tremain serving as ADJT 101 WKSP, he then served in a variety of units with 11 May 61 bringing him promotion to CAPT, and 11 Jun 67 promotion to MAJ, 29 Jul 74 saw yet another promotion, this time to LTCOL and a posting as SO1 (Pers emp) DEME, HQ Log Comd. On 7 Oct 77 LTCOL Remain was appointed CO/CI RAEME Training Centre He resigned on the 19 Aug 80

He saw service in PNG and operational service in SVN. On discharge he was appointed Colonel Commandant 3rd and 6th Military Districts.

Family and friends of Peter are warmly invited to attend the celebration of his life which will be held at the Glenmorus Memorial Gardens Chapel, 54 Glenmorus Street, Glenroy on Thursday 12th October 2023 commencing at 2pm.

It is a sad day we have been told that a great RAEME mate has passed away. His name is Colin Tonkin, a well respected and loved member of our Corps, he was 81.

Most of the olds and bolds will remember Col as a great friend and reliable mate.

The Funeral Cortege for Colin of Willagee will arrive at FREMANTLE Cemetery, Carrington Street, Palmyra at 3:15pm on WEDNESDAY (9.08.2023) for a Cremation Service.

It is with a heavy heart that I have the sad duty to announce the passing of our father Tom Bader Douglas. After just completing radiation treatment for throat cancer he passed from a massive heart attack.

DOB 30/01/1942- 1/05/2023.

Tom joined 4RAR in 1964 joining D Coy at Woodside from March ’65-’67 serving the battalion in Malaysia & Borneo (the secret war) and from ’68-’69 in SVN.
Upon return he then transferred to RAEME for more than 20 years. He had a distinguished Army career ending as WO2 EIS NQ and took discharge in 1981.

Brad passed away at the East Maitland Private Hospital, after a short illness, being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

He is survived by his wife Jan, son Todd, daughter Amanda and two grandchildren.

Dusty passed away during a charity walk on the Kokoda track in PNG to raise funds for veteran causes.

He joined the Australian Defence Force as a 16-year-old vehicle mechanic apprentice (46th Class) in 1991 and was posted to Brisbane, Toowoomba, Townsville, Darwin and Adelaide before he was discharged in 2014.

During this time he was deployed to International Force East Timor, Iraq, Timor Leste and Afghanistan.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Laurie Wolters on Monday 6 March 2023 age 90 at St Vincents Hospital Brisbane.

Laurie was conscripted as a National serviceman in January 1952 SN. 3/741493 and served with 58/32 Inf Bn (CMF). He was promoted to LT in 1955, transferring to the ARA and RAEME in 1960. Promoted to Captain, he served in several postings including AAS Balcombe in 1964, operational service in SVN with 101 FD WKSP from 28 May 1966 to 07 May 1967, promoted to MAJ in 1970, he also saw service with HQ ANZUK Singapore from 1973 until 1975, retiring after 30 years total service in December 1982. 

He was RAQ Life Subscriber No.450.

Laurie's family will be celebrating his life at a private ceremony on Monday 13 March 2023.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Max Menzies (WO2 retired) on Tuesday 21 February 2023 at Latrobe Nursing in Ulverstone Tasmania.

Max died from complications due to a stroke.

Max served in a number of postings including Fitter SGT at 3 Base in 77, and 106 FD WKSP Coopers Plains early 80's

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Maxwell's funeral service at the Garden Chapel, 100 Eastland Drive, Ulverstone at 11.00am on MONDAY, February 27, 2023.

His son Stuart informed us that Alan passed away in the early hours of Monday morning of the 20th Feb in the Palliative Care Ward of the Logan Hospital.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Robin Ian CUPITT Passed away 30 July 1997 at Greenslopes Private Hospital aged 47 Years.

Robin Ian CUPITT was the fifth of six children born to Sidney Charles & Lillian Isabel CUPITT nee GILLIS.
Ian (as he was known) became a 21st Intake Army Apprentice as a Fitter & Turner.

After completing his apprenticeship, he was sent to Vietnam. He was one of six Cupitt's to go to the Vietnam War.

Ian was repatriated back to Australia suffering from Post Traumatic Distress Order, a condition he suffered from the rest of his life.

Prior to going to Vietnam Ian was married to Maria KOWAL on the 23 May 1970 in the Roman Catholic Church at Ipswich. They were to have two girls then a boy born to them.

Ian had also served at the 28th ANZUK Wksps in Singapore 73-75 and at the Bulimba Wksps. He retired as a Staff Sergeant

Our Corps lost another legend on 23 January 2023, Major Geoffrey John Hawker (ret'd)  passed away at Epworth Eastern Hospital in Melbourne.

Geoff was a 1st class Appy whose hand I was proud to shake on ANZAC Day 2018 when over 700 Appys of all eras gathered at the Australian War Memorial for the School's 70th anniversary. He was one of the gentlemen who laid the foundations upon which all tradesmen who followed stand.

Geoff had numerous other postings during his career, including as the ASM of Metal Trades Wing at AAS. He was highly-respected in all roles.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Ken Phipps recently in Hervey Bay, Qld aged 74.

We understand that he succumbed to a long bout of cancer so may he now Rest in Peace.

Veh SGT at 18 Fd Sqn Tsv. Ken was a good soldier with a good sense of humour who displayed both military and mechanical leadership in the both unit and field environment. The welfare of those diggers under his control was his priority and as Shakey detailed he was a master fisherman. Thank you for your service from all of those that were fortunate enough to have served with you Ken Phipps.

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Merv Potter on Monday 2 January 2023 aged 71. He passed away peacefully at home.

Sadly missed by his wife, Jeanette, children, Rodney, Sonya and Amanda. Missed by his grandchildren, brothers and sisters.

He served at NQ WKSP COY and 3 EME SVCES among other postings.

Merv was an active member of the RAEME Assocation in North Queensland, number 156.

He resided just outside Ingham in North Queensland and was a Board Member of the Herbert River RSL Sub Branch.

His wishes were for family and friends to celebrate his life and cherish the good times.

A bloody good mate and a dam fine all-round nice guy. Our sympathy's go out to Jo, his wife of 51 years, children and respected families.

We are very sorry to inform you that Paul Weaver passed away at Caboolture on the 28/11/2022.

Paul was a 21st Intake Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic.

He requested no service. so his wishes were respected. The extended family toasted their dad and shared stories during a pre-arranged Christmas lunch Paul was looking forward to. He didn't get his beer, so the family had a couple for him.

Paul looked forward to the reunions, sharing a beer with old mates, catching up with everyone's lives, a few stories from the old days, perhaps a few tall tales as well. The family hopes his classmates will remember him fondly and perhaps raise a glass in his memory at the next reunion.

Peter was a Recovery Mechanic and served with 1st Armoured Squadron Workshop and then C Squadron Section 1 Armoured Regiment LAD from February 1968 to December 1968 in Vietnam.

Peter was a highly respected member of the Australian Army, the Royal Corps of Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and the 1st Armoured Regiment.

It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of John Ernest Beere, 77, of Hilo, on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu.

He was born on August 5, 1944 in Adelaide, Australia. He was retired major worked for Destination Hilo.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday (June 15, 2022) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; Funeral Service at 10 a.m.; cremation to follow. Casual attire.

Survived by, wife, Reverend Billie Keawekane-Beere of Hilo; son, Eric (Sandra Reina) Beere of Adelaide, Australia; daughter, Josephine (Ryan Harbey) Beere of Adelaide, Australia; step-son, Ronney (Maileen) Keawekane of Hilo; brother, Robert (Maureen) Beere of Tasmania; sister, Beverley (John) Coggins of Adelaide, Australia; 3 grandchildren & 3 step-grandchildren.

JB, chose the Military as a career and after Kapooka, was posted to 6 RAR. His vision of “seeing the world” was soon to commence as Pte JE Beere of 11Pl, D Coy 6RAR found himself in Vietnam in May 1966.

On the 16th August 1966, the daily grind of life as a Grunt was soon to take on a new meaning when D Coy went on patrol for OPERATION SMITHFIELD which later become known as The Battle of Long Tan. Being in 11 Pl, JB was right in the middle of this battle and ended up wounded and lay in the bush all night till they found him the next day. Of the 33 members of 11 Pl, 13 were KIA and 10 were wounded.

It is with deep sadness I advise that Terry (Bluey) Howard passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening 31 August 2022 while in palliative care at the Atherton Hospital surrounded by wife, Rae, and his daughters, Kathy and Kelly. He was just 66 years of age.

There will be a private service for family to farewell him. This will be followed by a commemorative gathering at Rae and Blue’s large property at Millaa Millaa (Atherton Tablelands) in late October to align with his birthday. All friends will be welcome to attend this gathering and details will follow.

WO2 Terry Howard served as a RAEME Aircraft Maintenance Engineer for 21 years. Bluey was Corps enlisted into RAEME when he joined the Army in February 1973 as a trainee aircraft Airframe Fitter. He then completed further training in engines and avionics systems to become a very skilled All Trades Fitter.

He served in PNG with the Air Transport Squadron in 1986-1987 as a SGT instructing the locally enlisted personnel on aircraft maintenance on DC3, Nomad and Arava aircraft.

He was posted to 162 Reconnaissance Squadron in January 1992 as the ASM.

He retired as a Warrant Officer Class Two in February 1994 to pursue a career in his passion of vehicle maintenance and repair.

Bluey was a dedicated soldier and a great bloke.
